Editorial Standards, Honest Sourcing & Disclosure

Crocodile Leather Bags (crocodileleatherbags.com) is an independent authority and sourcing desk for genuine crocodile and exotic-leather bags. We publish guidance to help collectors, buyers and brands make informed decisions, and we connect them to vetted, CITES-compliant makers. The following standards govern everything we publish.

We label species honestly

“Crocodile”, “alligator” and “caiman” are different species, and we never blur them. The premium crocodilian is saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). Nile crocodile (C. niloticus) is very high but usually priced below porosus. American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) is a separate, prized category, often offered matte. Caiman (Caiman crocodilus) is the entry tier — stiffer, with pronounced bony plates. We state which species a bag is, and we never pass embossed or printed calfskin off as exotic leather.

CITES compliance — general information, not legal advice

Genuine crocodilian leather is regulated under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Most farmed and ranched crocodile and alligator skins and products move under Appendix II with permits and source codes (typically C, F or R — bred or ranched, not wild-caught W). International orders generally require a valid CITES export permit, sometimes an import permit, and accurate species and product details on customs documentation. Requirements vary by country and over time, and second-hand or pre-Convention items have their own rules. The information on this site is general and educational, not legal advice — buyers and brands must verify with their own country’s CITES Management Authority or a specialist customs broker.

Prices are indicative ranges

All prices, MOQs and lead times we publish are indicative ranges, last verified mid-2026, intended for planning. They vary by species, grade, cut, finish, hardware and order size. Final pricing is always by quote.

No brand affiliation

Major luxury houses such as Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Gucci are referenced only as neutral, widely known examples of crocodilian leather in the luxury segment. We have no affiliation with, and are not endorsed by, any of these brands. We never claim a relationship with a specific tannery or fashion house that we cannot document.

We are a sourcing desk, not a tannery

We do not tan leather or manufacture bags ourselves. We are an authority and sourcing desk: we curate and connect buyers to vetted, CITES-compliant makers, and we coordinate bespoke and wholesale orders. We coordinate; the makers craft. We may earn a sourcing commission on referred orders; this never changes our species labelling or our published facts.
